New Rochelle Man Shoots Step-Father, Flees, Caught in Mount Vernon

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police arrested Daniel Houghton, aged 38, of New Rochelle after a search over several hours, following a shooting at 92 Horton Avenue.

Houghton was located and apprehended at 505 South Second Avenue in Mount Vernon, NY. He will be arraigned in New Rochelle City Court pending charges.

The New Rochelle Court Clerk’s Office had not yet received any paperwork from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office as of 4:30 p.m. and the courtrooms typically close at 4:30 p.m. so Houghton will most likely be arraigned on Thursday.

UPDATE: June 17 11:25 AM – Houghton is charged with Attempted Murder.

The victim is the suspect’s step-father.

At approximately 11:46 a.m., New Rochelle Police Officers responded to a private residence on Horton Avenue on a report of a gunshot victim.

An adult male, while on the second floor of a private residence, had been shot in his forearm. He was transported to an area Hospital Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and treated for a non-life-threatening injuries, according to Hospital Staff.

After searching and clearing the home, police determined Houghton fled the scene after the shooting.

“An adult male sustained non-life threatening injury, possibly domestic in nature,” said a police spokesperson.

City officials called the Clergy Rapid Response Team. One member was on scene.

At 2:30 p.m., New Rochelle Police, led by a K-9 Unit (bloodhound), assembled across the street from New Rochelle Police Department headquarters, some officers were armed with rifles, and walked along North Avenue. The K-9 Unit led officers into a small park at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and North Avenue, then across the street to the Tim Horton’s gas station, then across North Avenue into the old Mavis Tire Store property, then Shannon Beverage and finally into the small park in front of the Dollar Store.
