Car Thieves Nabbed in Rye Brook by Westchester County Police Following Pursuit, Crash

Written By: Robert Cox

VALHALLA, NY — Two people are in custody following an overnight car chase that ended with a stolen vehicle colliding with a police car in a cul-de-sac in Rye Brook.

At 4:14 a.m., the Real Time Crime Center at Westchester County police headquarters broadcast an alert that a stolen vehicle was traveling on King Street in Rye Brook.

As a WCPD officer exited the Hutch at King Street to look for the vehicle, he observed two cars traveling toward him at a high rate of speed. He activated his lights to attempt a traffic stop. One vehicle entered the northbound Hutch and headed into Connecticut, the other continued eastbound on King Street.

Our officer followed the vehicle on King Street and the driver would not pull over. The vehicle then turned on to various residential streets off King Street. In the vicinity of Robbins Roost and Rock Ridge Drive, the officer boxed the vehicle in. The two suspects climbed out the passenger-side door and fled on foot.

A foot pursuit occurred and multiple WCPD, Rye Brook, Harrison, and Greenwich PD officers responded to the scene and established a perimeter. The search continued, including by County Police and Harrison Police with tracking canines.

A County officer located one of the suspects and took him into custody. He is an 18-year-old Connecticut resident, and he was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a felony. (Name to come).

Rye Brook officers later located the second suspect and took him into custody. He is a 16-year-old male, and he will be charged as a juvenile.

The vehicle that was recovered is a 2021 Lexus that was stolen in Scarsdale.

The Westchester County PD helicopter assisted with the search.
