Public Provides Input to Shape Future of the New Rochelle Library

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Nearly 60 households participated, in-person and virtually, in a community meeting on Tuesday, July 27 hosted by the New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees. The purpose of the meeting was to gather input from New Rochelle residents and Library patrons regarding the Library’s programming, services and facilities. The ideas generated at the meeting will be used to guide the goals and objectives of the Library’s next strategic plan, to be implemented 2021-2026.

This meeting was the beginning of public engagement to gather input for the strategic plan. New Rochelle residents and Library patrons will have additional opportunities to provide feedback including taking a brief survey which can be accessed online at bit.ly/NRPLSurvey. The survey will be publicized widely via email, social media and fliers distributed around the city. Paper copies of the survey will be available at the Main Branch of the Library, the Huguenot Children’s Library, and other locations which will be listed on the Library’s website, www.nrpl.org.

“We had a very lively and productive discussion on Tuesday night. This meeting marked the beginning of our efforts to gather public input, and we already have a greater understanding of the ways in which our community would like to engage with the Library in future years.” said Whitney Barrat, President, New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees. “Some really creative ideas were generated and will be incorporated into the Library’s strategic plan. Our top priority is to engage all New Rochelle residents — our community partners, stakeholders, Library users and non-users, of all backgrounds and geographical locations — in the planning process. The Library’s long range plans must reflect the needs of the community, and we truly appreciate everyone’s participation,” said Barrat.

The survey will be open through September 30, 2021. The public is also welcome to attend upcoming NRPL Board meetings on August 12 and September 9 and/or request a meeting to further discuss the strategic plan with the Board. More information about the strategic planning process can be found on the Library’s website, https://nrpl.org/about/board/strategic-planning-at-nrpl. Questions may be directed to info@nrpl.org.
