NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle has appointed Camille Edwards Thomas, a 13-year District employee and former Albert Leonard Middle School Assistant Principal, as Principal. She succeeds John Barnes, who has been transferred to the District’s central office, where his experience and expertise will support teaching and learning initiatives and help meet the challenges presented by COVID.

“Camille Edwards Thomas is widely respected in the District and well positioned to lead ALMS,” said CSDNR Superintendent Jonathan Raymond. “She has held various leadership positions and developed extraordinary working relationships with administrators and teachers from our elementary schools to both middle schools and the high school.” He added, “Ms. Edwards Thomas is uniquely qualified to build bridges across grade levels and strengthen academic pathways for our students.”

Edwards Thomas, who most recently served as Assistant Principal at New Rochelle High School, started her career in education as a fifth-grade teacher in the Mount Vernon School District. She joined New Rochelle as a School Community Facilitator in 2008, a role she held until 2013. She then was named a House Principal at New Rochelle High School, holding that position until 2018. She went on to serve as Assistant Principal at the high school, then Assistant Principal at ALMS. She returned to the high school as Assistant Principal in July 2020.

“New Rochelle has been my home for over 25 years,” said Ms. Edwards Thomas. “Not only have I been able to raise my family here, but I have also experienced professional growth and built invaluable relationships. This fall, I intend to further cultivate my partnership with the staff and families of Albert Leonard Middle School through my new role as Principal, a role I am honored to have. It is my personal and professional goal to ensure that every student at Albert Leonard has a learning experience that will have a lasting impact in all their future endeavors.”

Ms. Edwards Thomas earned a Master’s Degree in School Building Leadership and a Professional Certificate in School District Leadership from Mercy College, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the City University of New York’s City College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in African American and Puerto Rican Studies from CUNY’s Hunter College. Ms. Edwards Thomas also is completing her Doctoral studies in Organizational Leadership at Northeastern University.

  1. When were all the stabbings at NRHS? Was it during her “leadership”? Check out what her degrees are in. It becomes clearer and clearer agendas are instilled and perpetuated that really don’t have all the students best interests just a particular group of students or an ideology that is being pushed on our kids through the education system. I’ll bet money she’s a socialist puppet.
