Father and 7-Year Old Son Killed in MVA off Hutch in New Rochelle, Two Surviving Children Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A father and three young children were involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident in New Rochelle overnight. The vehicle struck a wall in front of a house at 808 Pelhamdale Avenue. Neighbors said they were awoken to what sounded like an explosion.

On October 3rd, 2021, at about 1:32am, New Rochelle Police, Fire and EMS personnel responded to Pelhamdale Avenue at the intersection with the Hutchinson River Parkway Northbound Exit ramp on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, First Responder found a gray Nissan Altima, occupied by an adult male and three of his children, had collided with a brick retaining wall opposite the exit ramp of the parkway.

The 36-year-old male driver had severe injures from the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Twin brothers, 7 years of age, were found in the back seat. Both were transported to Jacobi Hospital with severe injuries. One brother was pronounced dead at the hospital and the other was undergoing surgery for severe internal injuries.

The front seat passenger, an 11-year-old female, was transported to Jacobi Hospital and underwent surgery for internal injuries and is recovering in stable condition.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time.

The City of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Police and Fire Departments offer its sincere condolences to the family and friends of these victims.

NRPD UPDATE 10/4: New Rochelle Police Accident investigators are still currently investigating the details of the fatal automobile accident claiming the lives of a father and son, and leaving two other children critically injured.


The following are the names of the occupants of the car that crashed Sunday morning:
Driver: Troy Carter, 37 years of age, of Hempstead, NY, deceased.
Front Seat Passenger: Tiara Carter, 11 years of age, of Hempstead, NY, critically injured but recovering in the hospital.
Rear driver side passenger: Carmello Carter, 7 years of age, of Hempstead, NY, deceased.
Rear passenger side: Romello Carter, 7 years of age, of Hempstead, NY, in critical condition.

Accident investigators are awaiting medical and lab reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is still underway and more information will be released when the investigation is concluded.
