Rye Police Seek Public’s Help to ID Phony Fire Chief in Inspection Scam

RYE, NY — The Rye Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a man who posed as a Rye Fire Chief.

In a a statement, police said a Male/White walked into Playa Bowls located at 18 Purdy Ave in the City of Rye on Friday October 8, 2021 at approximately 6:15 pm and identified himself as a Fire Chief with the City of Rye. The unidentified male stated he was there to perform an inspection of the premises.

After a brief walkthrough the male wrote two bills for approximately $480 dollars and was given cash by an employee.

The man does not work for the City of Rye Fire Department and we are attempting to identify him.
