New Rochelle Man in Critical Condition After Felony Hit-and-Run by Drunk Driver, Says NRPD

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Fidel Zacarias, 36, of Harrison, NY was arrested earlier today by New Rochelle Police on charges of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, Vehicular Assault 1st Degree, a D Felony, Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Accident, an E Felony.

The victim, a 22-year-old male New Rochelle Resident is in critical condition. His name is being withheld for privacy reasons. His family has been notified.

On January 5th, 2022, at about 3:48am, New Rochelle Police responded to 270 Main Street, the McDonald’s across from Faneuil Park, on a report of a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was found to have what appeared to be serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. New Rochelle Police Accident Investigators were called to the scene to conduct a full investigation.

Investigators developed leads and were able to locate the vehicle and driver, who was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Vehicular Assault 1st Degree and Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Accident.
