High-Ranking New Rochelle School Administrator to “Unexpectedly Retire”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A senior City School District of New Rochelle administrator is expected to retire, effective the end of the month, following a district investigation of misconduct, sources say.

New Rochelle School District Assistant Superintendent for Business Gregory W. Kern will be allowed to retire effective January 31. By retiring rather than being terminated, Kern will get a buy-out of sick and vacation days.

Kern was “Reassigned Outside of the School” in November, pending an investigation into charges of Creating a Hostile Work Environment, Discrimination, and Insubordination.

When asked to comment on the situation, the District issued a brief statement.

“While we cannot comment on specifics of personnel matters, Mr. Kern is working remotely, at this time, and is continuing to fulfill his duties and responsibilities,” said a District spokesperson
