NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 6, 2022) — A water main break in downtown New Rochelle sent water bubbling up onto the road surface early Friday morning.
Initial reports at 12:41 am were of a water main break at 230 North Avenue, with multiple business basements flooding.
Patrons at a nearby watering hole who asked not be identified said they heard a loud bang, went outside and saw water gushing up onto the street.
There was no apparent flooding of basements in the area, according to firefighters on scene.
Suez Emergency Response crews responded to the scene and shut off the water.
The location on North Avenue and Anderson Street was the site of a daylighting operation earlier in the day as part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades in downtown New Rochelle related to the large development projects over the past several years.
A similar incident occurred on Le Count Place and Main Street last January.
