Connecticut Man Facing Multiple Violent Felonies Following Overnight Gun Arrest in Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, NY — A Connecticut man with several outstanding warrants in his home state is currently incarcerated at the Westchester County jail in Valhalla, NY after he was arrested by the Village of Mamaroneck Police in the early hours of May 9.

Jacyrus Lawrence, 23, of Waterbury CT, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon—2nd, a C Felony, Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd, a C Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon—3rd, a D Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, an E Felony.

The Lawrence was arraigned in Village of Mamaroneck Court and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. Remand was authorized in this case due to the defendant being charged with designated violent felony offenses, as well as having several outstanding warrants in the state of Connecticut.

On May 9 at approximately 1:00 am, Village of Mamaroneck Police received a 911 call reporting a suspicious vehicle in the area of Northrup Avenue with several unknown persons entering and exiting the vehicle multiple times.

Patrol Officers located the vehicle as well as the 4 occupants. During the investigation, all 4 persons gave conflicting stories as to who was the driver.

A search was conducted with consent of the occupants, which led to the recovery of a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.

The 4 people were detained and transported to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Detectives interviewed all parties and one of the occupants, Jacyrus Lawrence, admitted the firearm was his. He was arrested, arraigned and remanded later that day.

The other 3 occupants of the vehicle were released without incident.
