Librarian Gave New Rochelle Police a Day’s Notice of Her Plans to Rob a Bank, Records Show

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (June 23, 2022) – Mary Thompson, the 57-year-old former librarian turned bank robber from New Rochelle, told New Rochelle Police on May 19, 2021 — the day before she robbed the Chase Bank at 270 North Avenue — that she was planning to rob a bank.

According to police records, Thompson had been walking back and further in the parking lot of 260 North Avenue for 5 hours. Police received a request for a personal welfare check. When asked what she was doing, she answered, “deciding which bank to rob, the Chase Bank located at 270 North Avenue or the HSBC Bank at 260 North Avenue.”
