New Jersey Men Ram Rye Police Patrol Car Following Chase of Stolen Vehicle

RYE, NY (July 8, 2022) — A Rye PD patrol car was rammed by a suspect following a police pursuit of a vehicle reported stolen in Harrison, NY earlier today.

Jason Cathcart, 19, of Kearny, NJ and Shawn Neal, 23, of Newark, NJ were arrested by City of Rye Police and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, a class E felony and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree, a class B Misdemeanor.

Shortly after 12:00 a.m. Friday morning, Rye Police Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit after a License Plate Reader identified the plate on the vehicle as stolen out of Harrison, NY. The pursuit began on Stuyvesant Avenue and was picked up by other Rye Units.

The pursuit continued through the south end of town. It ended when the suspects drove down the dead-end road of Pine Lane where the suspect vehicle went into a resident’s driveway, reversed and rammed a Rye Police marked unit. Both the driver and three passengers of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Cathcart and Neal were taken into custody after a short foot chase. Two of the occupants have not yet been located.

The appearance tickets issued to Cathcart and Neal are returnable to the Rye City Court on July 19th, 2022.
