FedEx Driver from New Rochelle Arrested in iPhone Identity Theft Scam

WARSAW, NY (September 28, 2022) — Jerome E. Ware, 59 of New Rochelle, NY, was arrested Tuesday after he turned himself in to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with Identity Theft – 1st, a D Felony, and Grand Larceny – 3rd, a D Felony.

A warrant of arrest for Ware was signed on August 23, 2022 by Wyoming County Court Judge Michael M. Mohun following a joint investigation into fraudulently purchased iPhones on a victim’s account who resides in the Town of Warsaw. The investigation ultimately implicated, Ware, a FedEx Express driver who was diverting the smart phones from his route and not delivering them to their intended addresses.

Ware was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court where he was ROR’d . He has a return date of November 7, 2022.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the New York City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and FedEx Security.

Police narrative:

On April 7, 2022, a victim in the Town of Warsaw received a phone call from an individual indicating they worked for Verizon Wireless. The suspect solicited account information from the victim and subsequently placed an order for four iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones on the victim’s account. The iPhones, worth $5,599.96, were reportedly delivered to an address in Mount Vernon, NY the following morning, April 8, 2022.
