Lianne Merchant Announces Candidacy for Democratic Party Nomination to Represent New Rochelle City Council District 3

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (January 26, 2023) — Lianne Merchant has formally announced her candidacy for the New Rochelle Democratic Party Nomination for City Council District 3.

In her campaign announcement Lianne Merchant says she has been a resident of New Rochelle City Council District 3 for over 34 years. She is committed to both historical preservation and future progress and has an insider’s understanding of the district’s residents, its history, and its needs.

Lianne Merchant served on the New Rochelle Board of Education, including two years as President. Before that she held a seat on the New Rochelle Library Board for 12 years, including two years as President. She currently serves on the boards of the New Rochelle Historic Landmarks Review Board and the Westchester Children’s Museum.

Merchant is the founder of Cortlandt Partners Ltd., a real estate private equity firm affiliated with Young America Capital. She developed her expertise in capital-raising at Park Hill Group which was owned by Blackstone, a leading global investment firm that invests capital on behalf of pension funds, large institutions, and individuals. Before joining Park Hill, Lianne led iStar Financial’s Marketing and Investor Relations group. Lianne began her real estate career at General Electric’s pension fund.

Lianne Merchant received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and her MBA in Finance and Real Estate Finance from Columbia University.

Merchant is actively involved at Brown University. She is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council and co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging committee. She is a past member of the President’s Library Advisory Council (recipient of the William Williams Award) and the Brown Alumni Association Board of Governors, and held leadership roles on the Inman Page Black Alumni Council, along with fundraising roles for her class (including Ruth Simmon’s Slavery and Justice initiative in 2007) and the Alumni of Color Initiative of the Boldly Brown campaign.

Merchant sits on the board of the United States Fencing Foundation.

Lianne Merchant lives in New Rochelle with her husband where they raised their two sons who attended the New Rochelle public schools.
