Connecticut Man Flees Rye Police at High Rate of Speed onto I-95

RYE, NY (February 22, 2023) — A Connecticut man was arrested late Tuesday morning for unlawfully fleeing a Rye police officer.

Police narrative: On February 21, 2023, at about 11 am, Rye Police Officers observed a 2019 black Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Theodore Fremd Avenue in the area of Hammond Road, passing vehicles on the left. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, however upon activating the emergency lights the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued onto 1-95 north where the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed until traffic slowed the vehicle down and the pursuit came to an end. Reinaldo L. Gomez was arrested and transported to Rye Police Headquarters for processing. He was released on an appearance ticket for unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Gomez was given a return date of March 7, 2023 to City of Rye Court.
