PELHAM MANOR, NY (May 23, 2023) — The Village of Pelham Manor announced today that the Hutchinson River Parkway (HRP) has been determined eligible for listing on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Division of Historic Preservation (State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)) evaluated the criteria submitted within the village’s application and determined that the HRP meets the criteria for listing under Criteria A and C in the areas of transportation, recreation, landscape architecture, and engineering.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), as the owner with jurisdiction over the parkway, has issued a concurrence letter and will be working with SHPO to develop a comprehensive inventory of contributing features to this historical designation.

The Village of Pelham Manor is proud of its historical roots in Westchester County and feels that the HRP holds significant historical value. The village originally submitted its application for determination of eligibility on June 9, 2022 and the final revised submission was on January 2, 2023.

This determination is a significant step in preserving the history and heritage of Pelham Manor and Westchester County.
