Rye Police: Bail Jumper from New Jersey Picked Up in Rockland to Face Weapons Charge

RYE, NY (August 11, 2023) — A New Jersey man who failed to appear in Rye City Court in 2022 is now back in court facing an additional charge of bail jumping.

On Tuesday August 1, 2023 at approximately 6:30 pm, Rye Police Officers responded to the Ramapo Police Headquarters to pick up 25 year old Qasim Muhammed of Newark, New Jersey on an open bench warrant.

Muhammed had failed to appear for a court appearance stemming from a 2022 felony arrest out of the City of Rye for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Muhammed was transported to Rye Police Headquarters, processed and charged with Bail Jumping in the 2nd degree. Muhammed was arraigned in Rye City Court and held on $2500 cash bail at the Westchester County Correctional Facility.
