NEW ROCHELLE, NY (August 17, 2023) — In a textbook example of how not to transact business over the internet, two men agreed to allow two strangers into their vehicle late at night then drove them around the City until they were robbed at gunpoint.
The New Rochelle Police Department — and anyone with a lick of common sense — recommends that anyone involved in an internet-based sale use caution when meeting the seller and to select a safe location to do so, such as a local Police Department lobby; not meet late at night then allow two strangers into your car.
On August 16th, 2023 at about 10:43 pm, New Rochelle Police were called the area near the intersection of Remington Place and Prince Street on a report of a robbery that just occurred. Two incredibly foolish male victims, ages 33 and 21, told responding police that they drove to New Rochelle to buy a Sony PlayStation that was for sale online. Upon arriving in New Rochelle, the suspects directed them to meet at a different location than what was originally agreed upon. The victims then met the two suspects at the new location and both parties entered the victim’s vehicle. They proceeded to drive to two more locations and ended at the intersection of Remington Place and Prince Street. Once there, the suspects displayed handguns and proceeded to take $300 from the driver, before fleeing on foot toward Lincoln Avenue.
The suspects are described as being black males in their late teens to early twenties, wearing all black clothing.
The victims are described as being stupid.
New Rochelle Police ask that anyone with further information on this incident call the non-emergency line at 914-654-2300.
