Man Pistol Whipped, Robbed at Gunpoint in New Rochelle after Arranging Sale of Sony Playstation PS 5 on Offerup

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 27-year-old man was smashed in the face with a gun Sunday night, then robbed when he attempted to sell a PS5 game console near Montefiore Hospital’s Fesjian Pavilion at 31 Washington Avenue in New Rochelle.

The victim, a 27-year-old Male, told New Rochelle Police Officers that the suspect had brandished a hand gun, possibly a 9 mm and stole a PlayStation 5 from him, struck him with the butt of the gun causing facial bruising and pain, then fled on foot towards Division Street.

The victim and suspect had met at the incident location, where the Victim was to sell a PS5 to the suspect. They had communicated via an app called “Offerup”.

OfferUp is an online mobile-first Consumer-to-Consumer marketplace with an emphasis on in-person transactions. It was founded as a competitor to Craigslist, differentiating itself with mobile-friendly apps and user profiles with ratings.

The suspect was described as a Male/Black, 6’2” in height, heavy set and wearing an all black track suit, Louis Vuitton messenger bag and Adidas sneakers.

  1. Nah he’s right. Normally I’d never approve of someone being victimized but these scalpers that are using bots to buy 30 PS5’s creating a limited supply and turning around to sell them for 3x their value due to their sickening greed deserve to die in a fire. They’ll get no sympathy from me.
