New York Man Shocked to be Arrested by Rye Police over Stolen Car

RYE, NY (December 12, 2024) — On December 6, 2024, at about 2:07 pm, officers were on patrol in the area of the Boston Post Road and High Street when they were alerted by the Westchester County Real-Time Crime Unit of a stolen black Toyota Corolla traveling in the area. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the NYPD on December 3, 2024.

The vehicle was located getting onto I95 south and a traffic stop was initiated. The

vehicle’s operator complied and pulled over onto the right shoulder of I-95

Southbound, north of exit 18. The vehicle was confirmed stolen by the NYPD and the sole occupant was placed under arrest.

During an inventory of the vehicle 174 grams of marijuana was discovered and seized.

Arrest & Charges:

Jason Almonte, 41, of New York, NY

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property — 4, a Class E Felony
  • Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, a Violation

Almonte was transported to Rye Police Headquarters for processing and released

on his recognizance with a desk appearance ticket to return to Rye City Court

on December 24, 2024, at 9:00 am.
