NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 17, 2026) — Police will be present today at schools in the City School District of New Rochelle after an individual who previously issued a threat against the superintendent contacted the district again and indicated they were back in the area, according to a message sent to the school community.
In the communication, Superintendent Dr. Corey W. Reynolds told families and staff that the district was working with the City of New Rochelle Police Department and that there was no threat to school buildings, students or employees.
“There is no greater priority than the safety and well-being of our students and our school district employees,” Reynolds wrote. “Please know, there is no threat to any school building, student, or staff. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be a police presence at all schools in our district tomorrow.”
Reynolds said the situation relates to a threat made against him several weeks earlier.
“As you may recall, an individual issued a threat against me several weeks ago,” he wrote. “That individual has again contacted the school district and indicated they are back in our area.”
The superintendent said the threat was directed toward him personally and not toward schools or district personnel.
“While the threat was directed specifically toward me and not toward any school building, student, or any staff member, we have partnered with the City of New Rochelle Police Department to request a police presence at our schools to ensure a smooth school day,” Reynolds wrote.
Reynolds acknowledged that police presence at schools may cause concern among some members of the community.
“I acknowledge that police presence at our schools can cause anxiety and discomfort for some of us,” he wrote. “However, I want to reassure you that their presence is to ensure that only those persons who belong on our campuses are present at our school buildings.”
He said the district was working with city officials and law enforcement to address the situation.
“Please know that we are working with our partners in city government and law enforcement to resolve this situation as quickly as possible,” Reynolds wrote. “With their assistance, we are doing all we can to have a normal school day with an uninterrupted learning environment for our students and working environment for our employees.”
Reynolds thanked the community for its patience.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unfortunate situation,” he wrote. “Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions.”
According to prior reporting by Talk of the Sound, a threat against Reynolds earlier this year prompted heightened security at a New Rochelle middle school.
