MAMARONECK, NY (April 1, 2026) — A New Rochelle man was charged with a felony after detectives from Rye and Mamaroneck apprehended him at Harbor Island Park during an undercover operation involving geodes reported stolen from the Rye Arts Center, and he was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
On March 25, 2026, Rye detectives received a tip from a member of the public regarding a grand larceny investigation at the Rye Arts Center. The tip led detectives to a Facebook Marketplace seller offering geodes in close proximity to Rye. On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., an undercover officer met with 27-year-old Kyle Folkes of New Rochelle, New York, at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck. Detectives from the City of Rye and the Village of Mamaroneck apprehended Folkes shortly after he showed the stolen merchandise to the undercover officer.
The estimated value of the two geodes is $10,908.
Folkes was processed and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree, a class D felony. He was arraigned in the Village of Mamaroneck Court and released on his own recognizance with a return date of April 9, 2026.
