Governor Hochul Declares March 31 as Trans+ Visibility Day in New York

ALBANY, NY (March 31, 2026) — Governor Kathy Hochul has proclaimed March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility, celebrating the trans community across New York State and the nation. To mark the occasion, 16 landmarks will be illuminated in pink, white, and blue.

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor New York’s rich transgender history and recognize the contributions that transgender New Yorkers have made to the state,” Hochul said. She emphasized New York’s role as a leader in the LGBTQ+ rights movement and reaffirmed her commitment to the community.

Governor Hochul highlighted the expansion of the Lorena Borjas Transgender and Non-Binary Wellness and Equity Fund and the signing of Shield Law 2.0, which offers enhanced protections for health care providers and patients receiving gender-affirming and reproductive health care.

New York State Division of Human Rights Commissioner Denise M. Miranda, Esq, noted the importance of the day, stating, “As we recognize Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate the resilience and contributions of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-forming New Yorkers.”

The landmarks to be illuminated include 1WTC, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and Niagara Falls, among others.
