Face-Slashing Suspect Remains in Jail as Records Show Multiple Pending Cases in New Rochelle, County Court

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 14, 2026) — The New Rochelle man accused of an unprovoked face-slashing attack on North Avenue remains in custody at the Westchester County Jail more than a month after his arrest, according to county correction records reviewed by Talk of the Sound.

Kiwaun Irizarry, 28, has been held at the Westchester County Department of Correction in Valhalla since the evening of March 6, 2026, when he was booked into custody at approximately 8:03 p.m., jail records show.

New Rochelle police said Irizarry was arrested following a March 5 attack at 222 North Avenue in which a victim was slashed across the face with a sharp object. Police said the victim reported that an unknown man approached him without provocation and cut him. Officers later located Irizarry at a Hickory Street address and recovered a knife during a search of the area, according to the original police account previously reported by Talk of the Sound.

Police initially charged Irizarry with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police also said Irizarry would be mentally evaluated.

Court records show Irizarry was arraigned March 6 in New Rochelle City Court, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded. The case was adjourned for a “730 status,” indicating a court-ordered competency evaluation under New York law. The case is no longer visible in the eCourts system.

In addition to the slashing case, court records show Irizarry is a defendant in multiple other pending criminal matters.

In Westchester County Court, Irizarry is charged with second-degree aggravated harassment for allegedly communicating a threat in a separate case stemming from a Jan. 5, 2026 incident. Records show he was arraigned, pleaded not guilty, and bail was set at $5,000 cash, $50,000 insurance bond, or $50,000 partially secured surety bond. That case is scheduled for June 2, 2026.

In New Rochelle City Court, Irizarry also faces a charge of second-degree criminal contempt related to disobeying a court order in a case originating May 21, 2025. Records show he pleaded not guilty and was issued a temporary order of protection. That case is scheduled for June 4, 2026.

Court records also show a separate 2024 case in which Irizarry was initially charged with attempted second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Those original charges were later dismissed and replaced with misdemeanor charges, including third-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. That case remains pending and is also scheduled for June 4, 2026.

The records reviewed do not indicate whether the pending cases are directly related to the March 5 slashing, but they show Irizarry has multiple open criminal matters across both city and county courts while remaining in custody.
