WHITE PLAINS, NY (April 20, 2026) — Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that 244 arrests were made in the county in 2025 related to gun crimes, resulting in the recovery of 220 firearms.
The recovered firearms included 16 ghost guns, marking a 33% increase from the previous year. Ghost guns are unserialized, untraceable firearms made with 3D printers or assembled from partially finished gun parts.
Guns were most frequently recovered from Yonkers, with 102 guns seized, followed by Mount Vernon with 56, New Rochelle with 14, and White Plains with 12.
According to Cacace, 70% of those arrested were Westchester residents, with the remainder from other New York State counties (19%) and out of state (11%). Half of the out-of-state arrestees were from Connecticut.
Cacace noted that 36% of the arrestees were aged 21 to 30, followed by those 20 and under (24%), aged 31 to 40 (17%), and aged 41 to 50 (16%).
“Gun violence is among the most pernicious public safety challenges we face as a county, permanently shattering families and tearing apart communities in an instant,” Cacace said. “Removing 220 guns from the streets represents substantially fewer opportunities for criminals to use these weapons to bring harm to our loved ones and neighbors.”
Cacace emphasized the importance of coordination with local law enforcement agencies in reducing gun crime. “My administration will continue pursuing an all-of-the-above strategy in our efforts to combat gun violence, focusing on undercover work, precision policing, aggressive prosecution of firearm offenses and sponsorship of gun buyback events,” she said.
