NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (April 28, 2026) — Two New York City men with prior felony convictions were charged with felony weapon possession and remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail after Westchester County Police officers recovered a stolen, loaded handgun during a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle.
The stop was triggered at 6:45 p.m. Sunday when the department’s Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling on the Cross County Parkway with phony Pennsylvania license plates. Patrol officers located the vehicle, followed it onto the Hutch and conducted a traffic stop south of Webster Avenue.
During the stop, officers recovered a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine from the car. A subsequent investigation determined the weapon had been stolen during a burglary in Georgia in 2023.
Both suspects — whose identities are being withheld due to a separate ongoing investigation — were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree; two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, stemming from the high-capacity magazine and their prior felony convictions; and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree.
The men were booked at County Police headquarters in Hawthorne and held overnight for arraignment in New Rochelle City Court, where they were remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail.
Investigators also determined the vehicle was wanted in connection with an investigation in another jurisdiction. That agency was notified of the arrests and the impoundment of the vehicle.
