RYE, N.Y. (May 9, 2026) — A Stamford, Connecticut, man was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated Wednesday after he allegedly sideswiped another vehicle on the New York State Thruway in the town of Rye and fled the scene, only to be stopped miles away in the village of Port Chester.

New York State Police assigned to SP Tarrytown arrested Jose Luis Dorado-Flores, 48, of Stamford, following a two-vehicle crash on I-287 eastbound near I-95 in Rye at approximately 6:46 p.m.

Troopers responded to a report of a crash involving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado that had been sideswiped by a 2018 Honda CRV. The driver of the Silverado told troopers the Honda’s driver had left the scene.

Using a description of the vehicle, troopers located the Honda several miles away on I-95 in Port Chester. Upon stopping the vehicle, troopers identified the driver as Dorado-Flores and detected signs of impairment. A preliminary roadside breath test returned positive for alcohol.

Dorado-Flores was arrested and transported to SP New Rochelle, where he registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.21% — nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08%.

In addition to aggravated DWI, Dorado-Flores was issued several uniform traffic tickets, including leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He was released to a sober third party and is due in Rye Town Court on May 29.

No injuries were reported. The two drivers were the only occupants of their respective vehicles.
