NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 7, 2026) — The City of New Rochelle has announced the launch of its America 250 initiative, forming a committee to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026.
The America 250 Committee, comprising community leaders, educators, local organizations, and the City historian, will lead efforts to mark this milestone with events that highlight New Rochelle’s history and foster community pride.
New Rochelle’s observance will also reflect on its role during the Revolutionary War, when the area served as part of Westchester County’s “Neutral Ground.”
“As we commemorate America 250, this initiative offers an opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate our present, and come together as a community,” said City Manager Wilfredo Melendez. “It is also a chance to showcase the spirit and diversity that define New Rochelle.”
