WHITE PLAINS, NY (May 10, 2026) — Crime rates in Westchester County decreased in 2025 compared to the previous year, with violent crimes showing a 25% reduction, County Executive Ken Jenkins announced during his State of the County address.
Overall, total Index Crimes, which encompass both violent and property crimes, declined by 17% according to data from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Significant Declines in Crime Categories
“Westchester County continues to lead the way when it comes to public safety – and the numbers tell that story clearly,” Jenkins said. “Every single one of the seven major index crime categories saw a decline – from violent crimes like murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, to property crimes including burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.”
Jenkins credited the work of local police departments and the State’s investment through the Law Enforcement Technology Grant program.
Statistics Reflect Decrease
According to the DCJS, index crimes fell from 11,231 in 2024 to 9,337 in 2025, while violent crimes dropped from 1,888 to 1,422. Property crimes also saw a decrease, from 9,343 in 2024 to 7,915 in 2025, marking a 15% reduction.
Public Safety Commissioner Terrance Raynor emphasized the importance of collaboration in crime prevention, highlighting initiatives like the Real Time Crime intelligence center and multi-agency Drivers of Violence Enforcement (DOVE) details.
