NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 15, 2026) — Students from New Rochelle High School will gather in front of City Hall today to protest proposed budget cuts that would impact music programs in elementary schools.
The rally, scheduled from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., aimed to draw attention to potential eliminations of band and orchestra classes, as well as the dismissal of multiple teachers cherished by the school district.
“We want our voices to be heard,” said one of the students involved in organizing the event. The protest included chants, signs, and speeches, with a digital petition already securing 267 signatures.
Ryan Birmingham, who helped organize the rally, encouraged participation through social media, with photo and video opportunities available on site.
