NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (May 20, 2026) — The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle, in partnership with the New Rochelle Fire Department, celebrated the graduation of 14 participants from its inaugural Firefighter Career Pathway Program on May 11 at the Mascaro Clubhouse.

The 12-week program, part of a collaboration with the Mariano Rivera Foundation, aimed to prepare local young adults for careers in public service and emergency response. “This program gave young adults direct exposure to career opportunities they may not otherwise have access to while helping them build the professional and personal skills needed for long-term success,” said Becky Mazzanobile, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.

Participants engaged in career readiness workshops, mentorship, and hands-on training with the New Rochelle Fire Department, focusing on financial literacy, resume writing, mock interviews, and leadership development. They also received training in CPR, EMS, and mock physical agility testing.

Fire Commissioner Andrew Sandor expressed hope that many graduates will enter the upcoming Fire Academy. Capt. Frank Gagliardo noted the significant growth of participants, adding, “From the very beginning, they were engaged and asked thoughtful questions.” Capt. Anthony Cruciata Jr. observed the development of teamwork and confidence among participants.

Participant Raheim Clarke highlighted the importance of teamwork, stating, “In this field, you really need each other.” Mayza Lins Santos de Oliveira appreciated the supportive environment, which strengthened her interest in public service.

The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle continues to recruit young adults for future career pathway programs, offering mentorship and workforce readiness training.
