NEW ROCHELLE, NY (June 6, 2026) — Fire Chief/Commissioner Andrew Sandor will retire from the New Rochelle Fire Department effective June 27, concluding a career that saw him rise through the department’s ranks from firefighter to chief and commissioner.
The City of New Rochelle announced Sandor’s retirement in a statement included in the City Manager’s Update, describing his career as one marked by leadership, professionalism and dedication to public safety.
Sandor began his career with the New Rochelle Fire Department as a firefighter and advanced through the ranks as a lieutenant, captain and deputy chief before being appointed chief/commissioner in 2018.
“Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public safety,” the city said.
In addition to his service with the fire department, Sandor served in the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant in Force Reconnaissance. According to the city, he completed three overseas deployments and participated in Operation Provide Promise/Deny Flight in 1995.
The city said Sandor’s “dedication to the community and the Fire Department has left a lasting legacy that will be felt for years to come.”
“The City extends its sincere gratitude for his many years of service and wishes him health, happiness, and success in his well-deserved retirement,” the statement said.
