BRICK, NJ (June 27, 2026) — Louis F. DiRienzo Jr., a New Rochelle High School graduate who rose to become defensive coordinator at Monmouth University, died unexpectedly on June 27, 2026, at age 34, according to an obituary published by Westchester Funeral Home, Inc.
DiRienzo was born June 16, 1992, in Yonkers to Louis Sr. and Carol DiRienzo. He attended St. Eugene School before graduating from New Rochelle High School. He earned a degree in Health and Physical Education from Southern Connecticut State University, where he played linebacker and served as team captain, and later completed graduate work at Springfield College in Massachusetts, earning a master’s degree in education while serving as a graduate assistant football coach.
DiRienzo built a coaching career focused on developing young athletes. He joined Monmouth University in 2025 as linebackers coach and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2026. He previously spent five seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Springfield College, helping lead the program to multiple conference championships. He was named the 2023 Gridiron Club of New England Division II/III Co-Assistant Coach of the Year. Earlier in his career, he coached at Rutgers University and Wagner College.
