NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2026) — A New York Athletic Club employee has been charged with unlawful surveillance after detectives said he hid a recording device in a club restroom to capture people using the toilet, according to a New Rochelle Police Department news release and New Rochelle City Court records.
Ryan Mack, 33, of West Nyack, was arrested by NRPD detectives in connection with an investigation into unlawful surveillance that occurred on or about July 5, 2026, at the New York Athletic Club, police said.
The New York Athletic Club contacted NRPD on the evening of July 5, 2026, after discovering a recording device concealed inside a bathroom at the club, according to the release.
Travers Island, the NYAC’s outdoor campus, carries a Pelham Manor mailing address, but a small section of the property lies within New Rochelle, and that is where the restrooms in question are located, according to Detective Lt. Brian Fagan of the New Rochelle Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. The rest of the property sits in Pelham Manor.
A subsequent investigation by NRPD detectives, working with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Tech Unit, determined Mack had hidden the device in the Tennis Hut West Restroom and positioned it to capture unsuspecting individuals while they used the toilet, police said. Mack is an NYAC employee, according to the release.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mack following the investigation. Court records show a warrant was issued at his initial arraignment July 15, 2026, before Judge Michelle Bernstein in New Rochelle City Court.
After the device was discovered, Mack traveled to Kansas, where he was stopped and arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol in mid-July near Topeka, police said. On Aug. 12, 2026, members of the Westchester County Police Department Warrant Squad transported Mack back to Westchester County, where he was formally charged and arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Aug. 13, 2026, according to the release. Court records show a temporary order of protection was issued at that appearance and Mack was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2026.
Mack is charged with one count of unlawful surveillance in the second degree, a Class E felony under New York Penal Law § 250.45. He is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County’s public defender’s office.
The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office’s New Rochelle bureau is prosecuting the case.
Police said detectives identified several victims during the investigation, including children, and are continuing to seek additional potential victims.
