RYE, NY (August 16, 2026) — Playland Park in Rye has officially opened its new swing ship ride, Scorpios, promising to elevate excitement for families and visitors this summer.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins expressed pride in the new addition, saying, “The opening of Scorpios is another exciting step in Playland Park’s continued comeback. We’re proud to bring a new ride to one of Westchester’s most beloved destinations, giving families and visitors another reason to spend the day making memories together.”
Scorpios, manufactured by Metallbau Emmeln, is a classic “pirate ship” amusement ride that seats 42 passengers and features an open passenger space designed as a scorpion-themed ship. The ride provides a thrilling pendulum-style motion, powered by AC technology for smooth acceleration. Riders must meet specific height requirements, with those between 43 and 49 inches needing a companion aged 14 or older.
William Bland, Westchester County Parks Acting Commissioner, commented on the ride’s addition, stating, “Scorpios is a wonderful addition to Playland’s collection of attractions and enhances the experience of our guests.”
Visitors can enjoy more attractions like the Dragon Coaster and Grand Carousel, as well as Playland Beach and Pool, which are open daily through Labor Day, weather permitting. Fireworks light up the sky every Friday night at 9 p.m.
Playland Park is located at 1 Playland Parkway, Rye, NY. For more information, visit playlandpark.org.
