NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 5, 2023) — Ten seniors from New Rochelle High School have achieved the distinction of being named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The students, Muhammad Arhum, Danica Batista, Nathan Grandwetter, Claire McCloskey, Kelechi Njoku, Riley O’Rourke, Lucas Palchik, Ariana Rueda, Elnaz Sadeghi, and Max Straussberg, received this recognition based on their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Their scores place them among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 program. A spokesperson for National Merit commented on their achievement, saying, “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success.” The spokesperson added that recognizing these students and the role of their schools is essential for educational excellence in the nation.
Each student will receive a letter of commendation from both the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, acknowledging their academic accomplishments.
