MAMARONECK, NY (September 20, 2023) — Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) Franz, Sanner, and Schuck issued several tickets to an angler observed fishing at Harbor Island Park in the Village of Mamaroneck.
On September 20, the officers found the angler using three poles and a handline to catch bluefish, also known as snappers. The compliance check revealed the angler possessed 20 snappers, exceeding the allowable daily limit, and lacked the required marine registry.
The ECOs directed the angler to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) website for information on recreational saltwater fishing regulations, including acquiring a free marine registry. The angler was ticketed for possessing 15 snappers over the allowable limit, fishing without a marine registry, and take by means other than angling. The case is returnable to the Village of Mamaroneck Court. The fish were returned to the water for the benefit of local wildlife.
