FBI Still Offering $10,000 Reward for Mtayari Dixon, Wanted in 2022 Killing of James Caldwell Jr.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 27, 2026) — Four years after New Rochelle rapper James “Boogie Nation” Caldwell Jr. was gunned down on a city street, the man accused of killing him remains a fugitive, with the FBI offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Mtayari Dixon, 33, is listed on the FBI’s Violent Crimes — Murders wanted list and is considered armed and dangerous. Dixon has been wanted since November 2022 in connection with Caldwell’s death, but despite an interstate manhunt, federal charges and national television exposure, he has continued to elude capture.

Caldwell, 29, was shot on October 26, 2022, near the intersection of Horton Avenue and Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard. New Rochelle police responded at approximately 5:54 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire and discovered Caldwell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Dixon was charged with murder in New Rochelle City Court on November 14, 2022, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A federal arrest warrant followed on March 8, 2024, after Dixon was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to the FBI, Dixon allegedly shot Caldwell following a verbal altercation. Investigators believe Dixon boarded a train to Stamford, Connecticut, after the killing, then may have traveled by bus to Atlanta, Georgia, before continuing to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The case received national attention in May 2025 when New Rochelle Police Sgt. Tim Adrian of the department’s Criminal Investigative Division appeared on the FOX television program “America’s Most Wanted.”

The episode, titled “Music Industry Murder,” featured previously unreleased surveillance footage showing the shooting and the suspect’s movements afterward. Investigators traced Dixon’s movements through downtown New Rochelle, past police headquarters and toward the Metro-North station.

The television program also explored the relationship between Dixon and Caldwell, who had known each other since school. Investigators described a failed musical collaboration and escalating tensions between the two men before the shooting.

According to information presented on the program, investigators identified Dixon within hours of the killing after a police officer who had known him recognized him in surveillance footage. Despite identifying a suspect so quickly, authorities have been unable to locate him.

Caldwell grew up in New Rochelle and was an emerging hip-hop artist who performed as Boogie Nation. He released two albums, “Under One Nation” in 2020 and “The Cost of Loyalty” in May 2022.

Hundreds of family members, friends and neighbors gathered outside 33 Lincoln Avenue on October 28, 2022, to celebrate his life. Caldwell was one of five children and had recently become a father.

The FBI publicly announced its involvement in January 2024, offering a reward of up to $10,000. The reward remains advertised on the bureau’s wanted website.

According to the FBI, Dixon is 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs approximately 235 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair that may be shaved. He has a tattoo depicting a man’s face on his upper left arm.

Dixon has known ties to New Rochelle; Stamford, Connecticut; Atlanta, Georgia; and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Four years after Caldwell’s death, the FBI continues to seek information about Dixon’s whereabouts. Anyone with information is urged to contact the New Rochelle Police Department at 914-654-2300, their local FBI office or submit a tip through the FBI’s website.
