WHITE PLAINS, NY (October 29, 2026) — Kevin Lopez, 41, of New Rochelle, was convicted of attempted murder and other charges for a violent 2025 robbery. The verdict was delivered by a Westchester County jury under Judge Maurice Williams.

Lopez was found guilty of multiple charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Robbery in the First Degree, both Class B Felonies. He faces up to 25 years in state prison and will be sentenced on Dec. 11, 2026.

The incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when Lopez attacked a pedestrian on the Centre Avenue Bridge over I-95 in New Rochelle. Armed with a utility knife, he demanded money and then stabbed the victim multiple times after the victim complied.

District Attorney Susan Cacace commented on the case, stating, “The victim was simply trying to make his way home when the defendant ambushed him at knifepoint. I welcome the jury’s verdict, which holds the defendant accountable.”

The victim was treated for lacerations and a jugular hematoma at a local hospital. Lopez was arrested on Aug. 8, 2025, by the New Rochelle Police Department. The knife used in the attack was recovered, and the investigation was supported by the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research.

UPDATE (Oct. 29, 2026): In a separate statement following the verdict, the New Rochelle Police Department disclosed additional details about the investigation. Police said officers recovered Lopez’s driver’s license at the scene of the July 30, 2025, attack and arrested him at his residence on Aug. 8, recovering the utility knife used in the stabbing.

Police also identified Lopez as a violent predicate offender and confirmed he remains in custody at the Westchester County Jail pending sentencing. The department said the attack occurred at approximately 10 p.m. and that Lopez pushed the victim to the ground before repeatedly stabbing him in the face, neck, abdomen and left arm.

Assistant District Attorneys Rachel Ehrhardt and Caroline Zicca, from the Major Case Bureau, prosecuted the case with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Leigh Wellington.
