MAMARONECK, NY (October 29, 2026) — The Town of Mamaroneck will hold a public hearing on a proposed local law that would allow the Town Board to exceed New York state’s property tax cap when adopting its 2027 budget.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. at the Town Center, 740 W. Boston Post Road. The proposed legislation would authorize the town to adopt a budget for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2027, that requires a property tax levy exceeding the limit established under New York General Municipal Law Section 3-c.
Under the proposed law, the Town Board would exercise authority granted by subdivision 5 of Section 3-c, which permits local governments to override the property tax cap through adoption of a local law approved by at least 60% of the governing body.
The legislation, titled “Local Law Authorizing a Property Tax Levy in Excess of the Limit Established in General Municipal Law §3-c,” would authorize the Town Board to adopt a 2027 budget with a property tax levy above the statutory limit.
The proposed law does not specify the amount by which the town would exceed the tax levy limit. It would take effect immediately upon filing with the New York secretary of state if adopted.
Residents may attend the public hearing in person or watch on local municipal access television, including Cablevision channels 75, 76 and 77 or Verizon channels 34, 35 and 36. The meeting will also be available through LMC Media.

The full text of the proposed local law is available through the Town of Mamaroneck website. Residents may also request a mailed copy by calling the Town Clerk’s Office at 914-381-7870.
The public hearing notice was published Oct. 29 by order of the Town Board.
