NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 15, 2023) — The City of New Rochelle will update and expand its GIS-based maps of the municipal stormwater system with a $44,000 grant. This project aims to identify illicit stormwater discharges and reduce stormwater pollution in Long Island Sound.

The funding is part of more than $30.4 million in state grants awarded by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 3 to support 31 projects aimed at improving water quality in the Hudson Valley. These projects aim to protect drinking water, update aging infrastructure, and enhance habitat.

“Governor Hochul’s $30.4 million investment will directly help communities across the Hudson Valley upgrade essential infrastructure, safeguard drinking water, and enhance resiliency against flooding,” DEC Region 3 Director Kelly Turturro said.

Overall, more than $29.1 million will support 15 projects through the DEC’s Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) grant program, while more than $1.3 million will support 16 projects through the Non-Agricultural Nonpoint Source and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Planning Grant (NPG) program.
