ALBANY, NY (November 3, 2026) — The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has announced the launch of a recruitment campaign for Park Rangers. Applications will be accepted through December 31, 2026.

“Park Rangers play an essential role in helping visitors safely enjoy everything our parks have to offer,” said Commissioner Kathy Moser. “We look forward to recruiting a new class of candidates who will work alongside our dedicated staff and Park Police across New York’s more than 250 state parks and historic sites.”

Park Rangers serve as ambassadors and safety representatives for state parks, with duties including patrolling campgrounds, beaches, and trails, and responding to calls for assistance. While not law enforcement officers, they are crucial in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of park visitors.

The state is seeking individuals committed to public service, emphasizing the importance of keeping parks safe and welcoming. Park Rangers may also assist with maintenance and support public safety efforts during large events. Employment typically runs from mid-May through Labor Day, with potential extensions at select locations.
