PELHAM MANOR, NY (October 20, 2023) — The Village of Pelham Manor has been awarded a $1,006,000 grant to implement bioretention systems aimed at capturing and treating stormwater at two locations within the village. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce flooding and improve water quality in New Rochelle Harbor.
The funding is part of more than $30.4 million in State grants awarded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 3 to support 31 water quality projects in the Hudson Valley. These projects are designed to safeguard drinking water, update aging infrastructure, and enhance resiliency against flooding.
“Governor Hochul’s $30.4 million investment will directly help communities across the Hudson Valley upgrade essential infrastructure, safeguard drinking water, and enhance resiliency against flooding,” DEC Region 3 Director Kelly Turturro said.
The DEC’s Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) grant program will support 15 projects with more than $29.1 million, while the Non-Agricultural Nonpoint Source and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Planning Grant (NPG) program will assist 16 projects with over $1.3 million.
