The Associated Press is reporting that a Wisconsin Paper Faces Backlash for Outing Web Critic

When anonymous commenters criticized a local politician many readers of the local Gannett newspaper posted anonymous comments on the Wausau Daily Herald web site.

Zuleger, administrator of the Wausau suburb of Weston, demanded to know who was saying all those nasty things about him, and the paper did something unusual: It handed over one critic’s e-mail address.

Zuleger then sent the commenter, a local businessman, a letter on official stationery demanding he stop making personal attacks, disclose his identity and meet with him.

For the record, Talk of the Sound would NEVER turn over personally identifying information about an anonymous commenter because some local politician asked for it.
