New Rochelle’s Art Tradition on display at Norman Rockwell Habitat Restore

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

New Rochelle has been and is home to many who are influential in their fields/professions. No less is the case than with the artists who in the past who have called New Rochelle home and today’s artists who live and share in our community. Yesterday Habitat for Humanity of Westchester brought together a presentation that highlighted both artists past and present, who call New Rochelle home.

DSCF2066Tom Daly, educational curator for the Norman Rockwell museum in Stockbridge MA, graced our SoNo DSCF2065community with a presentation on Norman Rockwell’s artwork for the Holidays.  Between Norman Rockwell and another artist who called New Rochelle home, Joseph Leyendecker, they were responsible for over 640 cover illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post (322 and 321 for DSCF2047Leyendecker and Rockwell respectively).

Following Tom, was Julie Maner, who works closely with New Rochelle artist Charles Fazzino as Director of Business Affairs. She identified and that both Rockwell and Fazzino work to capture the popular culture of their times – the work of Rockwell was a precursor to today’s Pop Art that Charles Fazzino and his contemporaries create today.

In addition so seeing and buying some Norman Rockwell prints at the Habitat ReStore on 591 Main St, one can see the overall collection of Norman Rockwell work at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge MA. Charles Fazzino is in the process of building out another studio space in New Rochelle where he will be able to bring students in to learn more about the techniques/processes he uses to produce his works www.fazzino.org04-DSCF2048
