Talk of the Sound has obtained plans prepared by the Department of Public Works to divide the City of New Rochelle up into three zones – North, Central, South – that will each get garbage pick-up one day a week. The City is currently divided up into two zones – North and South – and garbage collection takes place twice a week. Under the proposed plan, recyclables will still be picked up one day a week, alternating between “paper” and “plastic/glass” pick-ups.

The shift to one-day a week garbage pick-up is expected to be completed by the summer.

  1. The Residents are Constantly Surprised by Some New Inconvenience
We do pay a “fee” for garbage collection which has never been taken away. So is the City going to remove this “fee” when the services are reduced?

  2. Reduce staff?
Would this reduce the staff counts? Is that how it would save money? I seem to remember having a garbage tax.
