On Wednesday April 14th 2010 the Chamber of Commerce of New Rochelle will honor Byron Gray, President of the New Rochelle Fire Department UFFA Local 273 at their Annual Recognition Dinner Dance. Byron will be honored as “Government Leader of the Year” for the work that he has done during his presidency and for his 25 years of dedicated service to the New Rochelle Fire Department and the residents that they serve. Just a short time ago, the New Rochelle Fire Department’s members assisted the city by deferring their 2010 raise. Collectively their decision was based on several factors: First and Foremost, protecting the residents by providing the much needed man power that is required to fight a fire effectively, by protecting its own firefighters ensuring that they will have the additional manning to assist in keeping themselves a little safer during emergencies, and to essentially assist the city by providing a little breathing room to help get them on their feet during difficult times. In addition to other accomplishments, this was all accomplished under the presidency of Byron Gray.
The residents should know, The New Rochelle Fire Department is more than just a company that extinguishes fires, did you know that the Fire Department provides a number of services that collectively add up to 8000 runs annually.
The New Rochelle Fire Department has the ability to:
1. Fight fires aggressively and effectively, our goal is to protect life and minimize property damage due to fire
2. Provide emergency medical care
3. Provide fire prevention, code enforcement
4. Extricate people from car accidents
5. Provide technical rescue operations that include: trench and building collapse, confined space rescue, ice and water rescue, and removal of people from stuck occupied elevators-to name a few

The fire department does a whole lot more; we are really an emergency service company. Just last week during the rain storms the New Rochelle Fire Department responded to over 200 runs assisting the residents by pumping water out of their basements. One thing is for sure, when an emergency happens in New Rochelle, you can count on us being there and providing professional services to everyone that request it.

On another note, in the next couple of months the New Rochelle Fire Department will host many charitable events, we keep you informed, post regularly, and look forward towards seeing everyone there.
