Municipal Service Commissioner Domenic Procopio was back over at 7 Pinebrook Boulevard the other day, still trying to sell the house on which he was receiving tens of thousands of dollars in property tax exemptions, including for being a Combat Veteran despite never having served in the military.

City official continue to cover for Procopio. At a recent City Council meeting, Finance Commissioner Howard Ratner once again claimed that the illicit tax exemptions were the result of a clerical error despite not a shred of documentation supporting that oft-repeated claim. The City Manager, Chuck Strome, has refused to provide any documents under the Freedom of Information Law that would explain how Procopio got the tax exemptions. As there are no documents there is no way for City official to know just how Procopio obtained the exemptions. City officials have also claimed that the previous owner was a Combat Veteran but have provided no documentation supporting that claim either.

In February, City officials moved to change the City Charter to strip Procopio of his only formal, legal responsibility — appointing the Director of the New Rochelle Civil Service Commission.

Looks like his job function was not the only thing stripped from Procopio. Knowledgeable readers will see that Procopio’s Cadillac no longer sports a plaque declaring his title as Municipal Service Commissioner for the City of New Rochelle.
