Our Path to Economic Recovery
Unemployment in New York and nationwide remains unacceptably high and families in our region continue to struggle with the high cost of living. However, each day more signs indicate that our nation is on track for a strong economic recovery.

Jobs: In January 2009, before the Recovery Act was enacted, Americans lost 779,000 jobs in one month alone. A year later, job losses turned to gains of 162,000 in March, including 17,000 in manufacturing.

Family Wealth: Since the Recovery Act took effect, Americans regained nearly 30 percent ($5 trillion) of the $17.5 trillion in household wealh wiped out during the economic downturn.

Retirement: The Dow is at an 18-month high of over 11,000, an increase of more than 4,000 points–or 70%–in just over a year, critical for New Yorkers’ retirement and investments.
