Kevin Williams, 23, was stabbed and killed in front of Chase Bank at 270 North Avenue near Huguenot Avenue in downtown New Rochelle earlier this afternoon. The victim was not responsive as he was taken away from the scene. Talk of the Sound has confirmed that the victim died between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. His family was notified.

UPDATE: Police Track Down Knife (see update below for details).

Two suspects were pursued by police. One was chased into the building located at 311 North Avenue and apprehended without the murder weapon, an edged-weapon, most likely a knife, and removed from the scene. A second suspect was reported to be near Weyman Avenue and was later captured. Both suspects are now under arrest.

At 311 North, the tactical unit of the New Rochelle Police Department responded in force — with assault rifles, heavy armory and riot shields. They moved in and made the arrest.

Back at 270 North Avenue, police closed off the crime scene, a sidewalk area between the parking garage at 270 North Avenue and a small newspaper stand next to the stairs leading down to the Metro-North platform was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Police then blocked off North Avenue between Huguenot Street and Garden Street. At of this writing, the area around the crime scene has been closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Responding officers conducted a manual search, then brought in the NRPD K-9 Unit for a dog search. After that search failed, police requested Metro-North close off tracks below to train traffic. The K-9 Unit search the tracks to no avail and the manual search of North Avenue was renewed.

Pictured about is Detective Buono (left). Rather than bury a correction, Talk of the Sound prefers to deal with it directly in a visible way so this story and Detective Buono’s being on the scene may be the best opportunity to correct an error published by Talk of the Sound which stated that Detective Buono is the cousin of NRHS Principal Anthony Bongo. This information is incorrect. We apologize to Detective Buono, the officer who responded to Mr. Bongo’s phony complaint to NRPD after Talk of the Sound caught him illegally smoking a cigar outside the backdoor of Isaac E. Young Middle School. We especially apologize given our low opinion of Mr. Bongo and that we drew the incorrect inference that Buono was acting improperly and at the behest of Mr. Bongo.

As suggested by the correction and apology above, initial reports are not confirmed and not always accurate but two sources have told Talk of the Sound that the individuals involved knew each other and that the incident was the culmination of an ongoing dispute. One source indicated that the victim was walking past an apartment building — possibly 311 North Avenue and began arguing with two men in the apartment above. The two men came out of the building and caught up with Mr. Williams at stabbed him a block away.

UPDATE: Talk of the Sound has learned that NRPD was able to use video surveillance tape to determine that the alleged attacker brought the edged-weapon, a large knife, probably a kitchen knife, back to 311 North Avenue and passed the knife to a woman who took the knife into an apartment. Police obtained a warrant to enter the apartment. The woman in the video has been arrested.

While a large number of officers were continuing their hunt for the murder weapon blocks away, the NRPD out out a call that a woman in a pink shirt had just robbed a nail salon located 505 North Avenue. The suspect ran down Lawton Street, past the New Rochelle Public Library, and into the parking lot where she observed by an eagle-eyed Talk of the Sound contributor who called police and reported a woman matching the description put out over the radio running past 5 Anderson Street. NRPD quickly flooded the area, just two blocks from the location of the ongoing murder investigation. She was apprehended in front of Appleby’s on New Street at New Roc City. One source tells Talk of the Sound, the suspect was not a woman but a transvestite.

Can things get any weirder in New Rochelle?

There have been a series of shootings in New Rochelle over the past week.

Last weekend, in a story that was not reported, a man fired two shots inside his home on Neptune Avenue while police officers were next store removing a shotgun from the home of an elderly woman whose husband had passed away. The woman was afraid to have the shotgun in her house and asked NRPD to remove it. While they were exiting the residence on Neptune Avenue, two gunshots were offered. According to neighbors, the two officers hit the deck and called for back up. The entire are was surrounded by New Rochelle police offers, the “tank” was brought to the scene and the County Helicopter was flying overhead. The man, known by neighbors to be a bit “off”, as one witness told Talk of the Sound was talked out of his home, without the weapon, and was removed from the scene without incident. Neighbors say police officers removed four weapons from the home.

On Wednesday night there was a shooting in or near the parking lot at the New Roc City Stop and Shop. Three Talk of the Sound contributors were on the scene. Two observed a man fleeing the scene. A third took several photos and spoke with witnesses.

    1. the cops should have
the cops should have arrested everyone at that vigil, they are all drug dealing, gang memeber low lifes anyway

  2. the commish
the commish doesnt care about crime, there is no money in fighting. the only thing he cares about is the cops and cso’s writing tickets.

  3. Great
Great… this is what a pay 13K a year in property tax to live around? For what? I’m seriously wondering how much longer I want to keep my family here for.

Im not surprised by the comments posted here. This is the kind of work mr cox promotes on this site. He breeds hate and blame with this blog. Encourages it, participates in it. Blame the mayor, blame the commissioner, blame the victim, blame Chase bnak.

Sad state of affairs when someone is murdered, regardless of the circumstances or past history of the individual. But of course, i am not suprised to see the hate posted here.

    Kudos mr cox!

    1. Roberta, once again you are wrong.
I have personally made over 6 calls to the NRPD to complain about the obvious drug dealing going on at 311 North Avenue. I know police officers and they tell me it’s not a priority for the commissioner. They tell me that the policy is to deny the presence of gangs. This is the type of leadership that destroys communities. We need a commissioner that is proactive and non tolerant of behavior that ruins cities and families and lives. The complaining that takes place on this site is here because it falls on deaf ears in city hall. We need to get rid of the democratic machine that has ruined New Rochelle for the past 40 years. It’s time to end the corruption and elitism in city Hall. Only then can we take back our streets, schools and destiny.

      1. Oh, mr Tom, what was I wrong
Oh, mr Tom, what was I wrong about?

Are you trying to assert that because you make calls to the police and know not the outcome you deserve your butt wiped from the mayor and commissioner?

I don’t know about you but I have always found the nrpd to be over aggressive in their efforts. Rightfully so. No one can prevent a deranged man from stopping the thrust of a knife into someone else if that is his will.

Clealry anyone who chooses to commit arch an act in broad daylight has something else going on.

What do you suggest be done?

Eliminate the bus stop? Take out the metro north? Chainlink fence the sidewalks? Place Gestapo on every street corner?

Maybe you could patrol the corner since you seem to be so fond of it and knowledgeable of the activities that take place there.

      2. north av.
you are right tom i was at a past city meeting with wife when a man spoke to council& mayor about this problem i guess it fell on death ears.

    2. Another rollerblading flop
As usual, Roberta takes her predicable swipes at Cox and bloggers who believe that the officials in New Rochelle need to man-up and take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Reduced police presence in downtown, a commissioner who has outstayed his welcome and sued New Rochelle because he wasn’t the highest paid law enforcement official and is now due over $100,000 upon retirement in addition to his pension. A commissioner who brought New Rochelle; Critical Incident units, a SWAT unit, Bomb unit, Scuba unit all while gutting PACT and eliminating the most valuable law enforcement tool, the beat cop! We have a DPW commissioner who resigns days before news breaks (HERE) about a DA investigation of a DPW employee who raped New Rochelle of tens of thousands of dollars. We have a building inspector who pleaded guilty to DWI to avoid having a breathalyzer installed in his personal and official vehicles who’s nicknamed “the fixer”. We have a Civil Service commissioner who knowingly takes illegal Combat Veteran and STAR tax exemptions. We have a city council that doles out 30-year tax abatements like candy to children for wealthy developers, (Cappelli, Trump and Avalon), while raising taxes and terminating firefighters and Community Service Officers. You can’t park your car in the downtown shopping district to support floundering businesses yet we focus on GReeNR, community gardens and a dog park. The comments reflected are a real look at what we are facing. This is a wakeup call to swim or sink.

Roberta is the quintessential political shill who uses smoke and mirrors do obscure the facts. We have come to expect nothing more from Roberta and chuckle with each new post between rollerblading flops.

      1. I’m sorry, what part of your
I’m sorry, what part of your rant had anything to do with the murder of a young man?

We should be organizing a candle light vigil, to stop the hate, stop the drugs, stop the violence.

Blame, blame, blame with no thought for solutions or healing. Just more of the same.

Ill be rollerblading down to Hudson Park shortly. Hope to see you.

      2. Beware…Is Postperson looking for Mr. Goodbar?
Beware of open invite. Sounds fishy or a set up in the making. Best to ignore?

      3. Where’s your solution?
I’ll hold your hand at the candle light vigil because a life lost at such a young age is a tragedy regardless. You criticize me for not proposing answers but offer none of your own. Only when this community is prepared to honestly identify problems and yes mistakes can we hope to solve them. It’s time we focus on everyday life issues or as the politicos say quality of life issues instead of how to maintain power by getting re-elected. There has been denial of gangs yet everyone knows they exist and they will prosper and expand if no proactive approach is taken.

      4. It’s too bad The vigil
It’s too bad The vigil wasn’t announced or shared on this blog. I am sorry, but had you known maybe –or cared– you could have held my hand.

        Roberta the Postperson

      5. Fraud
What a fraud, you reprimand bloggers for their hate comments and lack of proposed solutions while you deny the public an opportunity to come together and heal at the vigil. These are the actions of a troll whose only intent is to disrupt. Ladyjustice is correct; “Best to ignore”

  7. Pat Carroll Must Go !!!!
The police commissioner is a walking suit who’s just padding his pension at this point. As areas of the city deteriorate, gang membership grows and buildings (platzner building at 301 north ave) have drug deals going on all day and night WHAT do the police do? Are they targeting gang members, do they have an affective gang task force, are they making arrests and making their lives hell? Are they arresting the people at the buildings..NO! They are adding more boats and marine patrols, more segways and swat vehicles. Do us a favor and tackle the real crime, better yet RETIRE and let some new ideas and energy revitalize the police force.

  8. Analogy defined
For years it has baffled me as to why Mayor Noam Bramson, City Manager Charles Strome, III and other officials have compared New Rochelle to the neighboring communities of Mount Vernon and Yonkers. I assumed it was a disgrace to be associated with these high crime communities who are riddled with cronyism. After reading this blog for two years and this latest occurrence I realize that crime statistics released by New Rochelle officials are suspect to say the least. More importantly, it becomes crystal clear that there is an analogy between New Rochelle, Yonkers and Mount Vernon which causes me to reflect and reconsider my future here in the “Queen City”.

  9. Rejoice Citizens of New Rochelle
Doing a little research, I have come to learn that the victim here was a total low-life, drug dealing, gun toting, life (a mercifully short life for the rest of us) long criminal and an alleged member of the Bloods. This filth was a menace to society and his “murder” (what one person calls murder, I call him getting what he had coming to him) was one of the best things that could have happened to this city. No longer will he be strutting around draped in red playing the wannabe tough guy gang banger with his jerk off friends, trying to prey on weaker members of society. As for his “murderer”, he too is apparently no better than his victim, by all accounts a complete animal, not fit to walk amongst us. So you see this kills (no pun intended) 2 birds with one stone…Kevin to the morgue, his assailant to prison, and safer streets for the rest of us.

    1. north av.
that building 309-311 north av. is a drug den and the police just drive by all day while drugs are sold/bought right in front of them.

    2. now who are u to talk about
now who are u to talk about a complete stranger u never knew?people like you are the real scum of this earth who sit on the internet with no life and yap yap yap(or shall i say “type”)away about shit u do not have a clue about.u should try finding a life instead of spreading false information around on a website.kev was a great guy,had problems like everyone else but not the monster u portray him to be.so mind your fucking business find a life and shut the fuck up.

      1. Apparently, you are as big a
Apparently, you are as big a piece of shit as your dead friend…”Kev” didn’t have problems, he was a drug dealing member of the Bloods, and we should all be glad he is dead. I only hope a few more of his buddies get a knife in the gut before this is all over.

    3. 3 cheers!
This is just a case of self cleansing. low life’s killing low life’s. This guy was scum and a burden to society. So why is anyone shocked? New Rochelle’s down town area is filled with these types of people.
I’m sure his mom thinks he was a great guy, but society doesn’t.

      1. Call it hate if you want,
Call it hate if you want, that’s the line liberals use when they have no solutions. These people speak the truth and it’s hate? This country needs to wake up quick, or it’s all over for America as we knew her.
